The Westside North Emergency Social Services
(ESS) team provides Emergency Services from La Casa to Westshore
Estates. Should an evacuation occur within this area, ESS
would assist the evacuees in getting the necessary emergency
services. ESS members from Parkers Cove, Lawrence Beach,
Newport Beach, the OKIB and the North Westside have formed
an active Westside North partnership including training,
communication, and fire prevention services.
Meetings are held monthly, normally on the
third Wednesday, to follow up on events and plan future
activities. Training and practice is provided to be prepared
in the event on an evacuation.
Included in this webpage are some Frequently
Asked Questions about your local, Regional and Provincial
ESS teams, as well as "What ESS Means to Me" -
a dissertation from your local team about what ESS means
to the people in our rural area. This FAQ has a section
on Personal Preparedness which everyone in our area should
be aware of - whether you are a resident or a visitor. The
FAQ also gives some answers about what would happen if an
evacuation should occur, and what the plan is to evacuate
people from this area.
The FAQ notes maps which will be handed out
should an evacuation occur. These maps to Kelowna, Westbank
and Vernon are included for your perusal now. You just may
find these maps handy to explain to people how to get out
here!
The FAQ also makes prominent mention of Grab
and Go kits - both for people and small pets. We include
copies of suggested kits for your use in this webpage as
well.
Your local ESS team is made up of people who
want to help people while remaining informed about what
is going on about emergencies on an ongoing basis. Come
